Risk Assessment

Volatility, beta, 95 and 99 percent VaR, max drawdown, and Sharpe for any stock, with a dollar VaR when you give it a position size.

⚠️ **Trading warning / Avertissement trading** : informational only, not investment advice. Risk metrics describe the past; they do not cap what a position can lose tomorrow. Curated by Skill Harbor: a risk profile for a stock or a position, computed from its own price history. Over a period you choose (one month to one year), it returns annualized historical volatility, beta against SPY, daily value at risk at 95 and 99 percent, maximum drawdown, and the Sharpe ratio; add a position size in dollars and it also expresses the VaR in dollars for that position, with an explanation of what each metric means and how it bears on position sizing. It is the discipline step most trade ideas skip: before asking how much a position can make, ask how much it has historically swung, how deep it has fallen, and what a bad day at 95 or 99 percent confidence looks like in dollars. It runs as a Python script (scripts/risk.py, needs numpy and yfinance) from the staskh/trading_skills repo. From the staskh/trading_skills repository (MIT). Honest caveats: every metric here is backward-looking, and past volatility, drawdowns, and beta do not bound future losses; VaR is a statistical estimate that real tail events regularly exceed; the data comes from Yahoo Finance and can lag the market. Skill Harbor never reviews the code, review it yourself before use.

How to check a build before installing →

Use "Risk Assessment" with your Muse. Prerequisites: clone the repo once (git clone https://github.com/staskh/trading_skills) and keep the folder handy; the skills live in .claude/skills/ and the scripts run from the repo with uv (uv run python), or with plain python if uv is not installed. This skill needs numpy and yfinance, installed through the repo project. No API key and no brokerage account are required; price history comes from Yahoo Finance via the free yfinance library (unofficial, possibly delayed). 1. Open the skill: https://github.com/staskh/trading_skills/blob/main/.claude/skills/risk-assessment/SKILL.md and copy the full SKILL.md text. 2. Paste it into a chat with Muse and add: "Assess the risk of a 10,000 dollar position in NVDA over one year: volatility, beta, VaR at 95 and 99 percent in percent and in dollars, max drawdown, and Sharpe ratio." 3. Compare the dollar VaR with the maximum loss you had budgeted for this position before opening it; if the 99 percent day breaks the budget, the size, not the stock, is the issue. Tip: run the same ticker over 3 months and over 1 year; a calm recent quarter can hide a violent year. Safety: a skill is plain-text instructions; it runs nothing by itself. This is informational only, not investment advice.

Questions

How do I install a build?

Every product page includes a copy-paste install prompt. Paste it into your Muse and it sets the build up for you — no manual configuration.

Where does my money go?

Straight to the seller. Skill Harbor never processes payments: checkout happens on the seller’s own page, usually Stripe.

What does the ✓ next to a creator’s name mean?

It means we confirmed the identity of the person behind the listing. It says nothing about the code itself — always check a build before installing it.
