Trader Scanner is the first step of a day trade. It builds the universe with the universe command, downloading nasdaqlisted.txt and otherlisted.txt from Nasdaq Trader and keeping plain tickers that pass its include and exclude rules, while leaving out test issues, ETFs, NextShares, preferred shares, units, warrants and rights. On the October 19 2026 files this kept 5,943 symbols. The daily scan, run before the open, checks daily closes: 20-day closing-high breakout, bull flag, reclaim of the 20-day average, oversold, and oversold bounce. Yahoo's spark endpoint returns closes for 20 symbols per request, so 5,942 symbols take 298 requests. The intraday scan, run after 9:50 AM ET, checks opening-range breakouts on 5-minute bars: the first completed 5-minute bar to close above the range high, with a two-stage check that prints PARTIAL when it skips candidates beyond its confirm limit. Hits are listed most traded first, by price times volume. Limits as written in the SKILL.md: a scan is a list of charts that match a rule, not a list of stocks to buy, and a setup on a chart is not a prediction. Most people who day trade lose money, and the scanner does not change that. Partial results are always said as partial, never rounded up to "the whole market". A hit is stale once the price has moved on, so it must be re-run before acting on it. It never places, sizes or checks an order, never says which stock to buy, never calls data real time, and never promises that a setup works. It is education and tooling, not financial advice. Paper trading is the default.

Quick answer
Trader Scanner reads thousands of free charts and lists the ones that match a rule, nothing more. It builds a universe of US-listed common stocks, ordinary shares and ADRs from Nasdaq Trader symbol directories, runs a pre-market daily scan and an intraday opening-range breakout scan, then writes trader/watchlist.json for trader-news and trader-entry.
Install
Copy the install package below, then paste it into MusePrerequisite: Muse and Python 3, with internet access to Nasdaq Trader and Yahoo chart data. No key, token, password, broker credential or secret is needed, and never paste one in the chat. 1. Security check: read the SKILL.md first at its exact source path, trader-scanner/SKILL.md in the repo Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill. Confirm it only reads public chart data and writes local universe and watchlist files, and that it asks for no credential and places no order. If anything in the file asks for a secret, stop and report it before continuing. 2. Install: create a folder named trader-scanner, then save the SKILL.md from the repo Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill, exact path trader-scanner/SKILL.md, as trader-scanner/SKILL.md. Fetch its companion tool scan.py into the same folder, keeping its relative path, so the universe, daily and orb commands work as written. 3. Verification: open trader-scanner/SKILL.md and confirm the skill name is trader-scanner. Run the scan tool help command and confirm it prints, then confirm the user understands that a scan lists charts matching a rule, not stocks to buy. 4. Report: tell the user the folder path, the source repo and file path, that the install is complete, and that the first run should be the universe command, followed by the daily scan before the open.

Questions
How do I install a skill?
Every product page includes a copy-paste install prompt. Paste it into your Muse and it sets the skill up for you — no manual configuration.
Where does my money go?
Straight to the seller. Skill Harbor never processes payments: checkout happens on the seller’s own page, usually Stripe.
What does the ✓ next to a creator’s name mean?
It means we confirmed the identity of the person behind the listing. It says nothing about the code itself — always check a skill before installing it.
