Statement Preparation

Turn a trial balance into a complete statement package: income statement, balance sheet, indirect cash flow statement and brief notes, with the equity reconciliation tied.

⚠️ **Finance warning / Avertissement finance** : informational only, not investment advice. A statement package is an official document the moment it leaves the building: a balance sheet that does not balance, a cash flow that does not reconcile, or net income that never reaches retained earnings are errors with filing consequences, there is a real risk of loss in any decision taken from misstated statements, and no output here is a promise of return. Curated by Skill Harbor: the statement preparation skill of GAJETOso/financeskills. Use it to generate a set of financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) from a trial balance when closing the books, producing the periodic profit or loss, or preparing year-end reporting. The opening checks are non-negotiable: do we have the full trial balance, is it balanced with debits equal to credits, which reporting framework applies (IFRS, US GAAP or tax basis), what is the period, and have all month-end accruals and deferrals been recorded, with recent disposals or acquisitions accounted for. The preparation framework then runs in priority order: trial balance validation for balance and classification errors, adjusting journal entries for depreciation, accruals and prepayments, income statement generation down to net income, balance sheet generation proving assets equal liabilities plus equity, and the cash flow statement built on the indirect method. The technical steps map every account in the chart of accounts to the correct statement line item, build the indirect cash flow from net income by adding back non-cash expenses such as depreciation and amortization and adjusting for changes in working capital (inventory, receivables, payables), and reconcile equity so that net income flows into retained earnings on the balance sheet. The deliverable is a financial statement package: the income statement with revenue, cost of sales, expenses and net income for the period, the balance sheet snapshot of assets, liabilities and equity, the statement of cash flows split across operating, investing and financing activities, and brief notes explaining major line item variances or unusual items. From the GAJETOso/financeskills repository (MIT). Honest caveats: a prepared package is a draft for official reporting, so have the statements checked by a qualified professional before any official use or filing; the trial balance, the adjusting entries and the framework choice are yours to supply and to verify, and the shipped calculate.py script should do the statement math instead of mental arithmetic. Skill Harbor never reviews the code, review it yourself before use.

How to check a build before installing →

Use "Statement Preparation" with your Muse. Prerequisites: the full trial balance for the period, confirmation that it balances, the reporting framework (IFRS, US GAAP or tax basis), the list of adjusting entries still to record (depreciation, accruals, prepayments), and any disposals or acquisitions in the period. A spreadsheet tool or Python helps you keep the package afterwards: this skill produces the statement structure and the math, and every source balance in it is yours to verify. No broker account and no credentials are involved. Informational only, not investment advice, and have the output checked by a qualified professional before any official use. 1. Open the skill: https://github.com/GAJETOso/financeskills/blob/main/skills/statement-preparation/SKILL.md and copy the full SKILL.md text. 2. Paste it into a chat with Muse and add: "Prepare the statements from this trial balance: validate the balance and the classifications, post the adjusting entries, map every account to its statement line, build the income statement and the balance sheet, build the indirect cash flow statement from net income with the working capital adjustments, reconcile net income into retained earnings, and give me the package with brief notes on the major variances." 3. Prove the three ties before you read anything else: debits equal credits, assets equal liabilities plus equity, and closing cash equals the balance sheet cash line. Tip: keep the adjusting entries list with the package; a reviewer who cannot see the adjustments cannot rely on the statements. Safety: a skill is plain-text instructions; it runs nothing by itself. Analysis and documents only, no orders and no account access. Informational only, not investment advice.

Questions

How do I install a build?

Every product page includes a copy-paste install prompt. Paste it into your Muse and it sets the build up for you — no manual configuration.

Where does my money go?

Straight to the seller. Skill Harbor never processes payments: checkout happens on the seller’s own page, usually Stripe.

What does the ✓ next to a creator’s name mean?

It means we confirmed the identity of the person behind the listing. It says nothing about the code itself — always check a build before installing it.
