Crypto Accounting

Classify, measure and reconcile digital assets: intangible, inventory or financial asset, cost basis by lot, impairment under GAAP, and wallet to ledger reconciliation.

⚠️ **Finance warning / Avertissement finance** : informational only, not investment advice. Digital assets are volatile and their accounting is still framework driven: a wrong classification or a missed impairment misstates the books, holdings can lose value fast, there is a real risk of loss in any crypto exposure, and no output here is a promise of return. Curated by Skill Harbor: the crypto accounting skill of GAJETOso/financeskills. Use it when a company holds cryptocurrency or NFTs and must classify, measure and report them, reconcile stablecoins or wallets, or book staking rewards, mining income, airdrops and gas fees. Classification comes first and drives everything after it: intangible asset as the standard for assets held for investment such as BTC or ETH, inventory if the company is a broker-dealer in digital assets, financial asset only rarely, for assets carrying contractual rights to cash. The measurement model follows: the cost model with impairment testing, the most common under US GAAP, or the revaluation model at fair value where IFRS allows it for active markets. The framework then runs in priority order: identification and ownership (verifying control through private keys or custody), cost basis tracking by FIFO or specific identification for every transaction, impairment testing against market price, income recognition at the value of rewards at the moment of receipt, and reconciliation of on-chain activity to the general ledger. The technical steps state the GAAP impairment rule plainly (if the price drops at any point in the quarter the asset is written down to that low point, with no write back up until disposal under the standard the skill describes, alongside a reference to the newer FASB fair value update) and the gas fee rule (a transaction cost, capitalized when part of an acquisition, expensed when part of a transfer). The deliverable is a digital asset ledger summary: an inventory table with asset, quantity, cost basis, current fair value and carrying value, an activity log of staking income, realized gains and losses and impairment charges, and a wallet reconciliation discrepancy report. From the GAJETOso/financeskills repository (MIT). Honest caveats: crypto positions feed official financial statements and tax files, so have the classification and the carrying values checked by a qualified professional before any official use, and note that fair value rules for crypto have been evolving, so verify the current standard for your framework and period; the wallet exports, exchange records and cost basis history are yours to supply and to verify, and the shipped calculate.py script should do the computations instead of mental arithmetic. Skill Harbor never reviews the code, review it yourself before use.

How to check a build before installing →

Use "Crypto Accounting" with your Muse. Prerequisites: the wallet and exchange exports covering the full period, the cost basis history per lot, the custody arrangements, and your reporting framework (IFRS or US GAAP) with the measurement model your policy applies. Never paste a private key or a seed phrase into any chat: ownership is proven with addresses, signatures and custodian statements, not secrets. No broker account access is involved. Informational only, not investment advice, and have the output checked by a qualified professional before any official use. 1. Open the skill: https://github.com/GAJETOso/financeskills/blob/main/skills/crypto-accounting/SKILL.md and copy the full SKILL.md text. 2. Paste it into a chat with Muse and add: "Account for these digital assets: classify each holding with the reasoning, track the cost basis by lot, run the impairment test against the period lows, recognize the staking and airdrop income at receipt value, treat the gas fees by transaction type, reconcile the wallets to the general ledger, and give me the ledger summary with the discrepancy report." 3. Reconcile before you measure: a carrying value computed on an unreconciled wallet balance is a number built on sand. Tip: keep the specific identification records per lot from day one; reconstructing cost basis after a year of transfers is the most expensive cleanup in this whole area. Safety: a skill is plain-text instructions; it runs nothing by itself. Analysis and documents only, no orders and no account access. Informational only, not investment advice.

Questions

How do I install a build?

Every product page includes a copy-paste install prompt. Paste it into your Muse and it sets the build up for you — no manual configuration.

Where does my money go?

Straight to the seller. Skill Harbor never processes payments: checkout happens on the seller’s own page, usually Stripe.

What does the ✓ next to a creator’s name mean?

It means we confirmed the identity of the person behind the listing. It says nothing about the code itself — always check a build before installing it.
