How to Install a Skill in Muse

Muse is Meta's personal AI assistant, and a skill is how you teach it a new, repeatable job. On Skill Harbor, installing one takes one copy-paste: every listing ships with an install prompt written for Muse. Paste it into a chat, and Muse does the fetching, the safety check, the install and the verification itself.

Before you start

Read the Prerequisites line at the top of the listing's install section. Most of the time it says none — no account, no API key, nothing to prepare. When a skill connects to a service you use (your calendar, your website, your broker), that account or key is the only manual piece, and it is always stated before you install, never discovered after.

Step by step

  1. Open the skill's page on Skill Harbor and copy the install prompt from its Install section — one click.
  2. Open Muse and paste the prompt into a new chat, then send. That is the whole manual part.
  3. Muse summarises before it acts. It reads the prompt and the skill, and tells you in a few lines what the skill does and what installing it involves. Approve to continue.
  4. Muse fetches and checks the skill: the files come down into a temporary folder, and anything suspicious — unexpected network calls, credential harvesting, commands that reach outside the install — stops the install with an explanation.
  5. Muse installs, verifies, and reports: files in place, format valid, and a short report of what was installed and what is left for you (usually nothing).

Using the skill afterwards

Start a new conversation — skills load when a conversation starts — and just ask for the job in plain words: "track the next Mercury retrograde for me", "moderate my site's comment queue". You do not need to name the skill or repeat its instructions; Muse has them now.

Safety notes

  • The summary step is yours: if what Muse describes is not what you expected, stop there. Nothing is installed before you approve.
  • Never paste passwords into a chat. When a skill needs a credential, the install prompt routes it through Muse's secure credential storage or the service's own sign-in — never through the conversation text.
  • Creators marked with a ✓ on Skill Harbor have a confirmed identity. That says who they are, not that their code is safe — the check in step 4 is what covers the code.

Troubleshooting

  • Muse stopped on a red flag: read its report — it names what looked suspicious. Decide from the facts; do not just paste the prompt again and hope.
  • The skill does not seem active: open a fresh conversation. A chat that was already running will not pick up a skill installed after it started.
  • Half the features do not work: check the prerequisites line on the listing — the missing piece is almost always an account or a key the skill needs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install a skill in Muse?
Copy the listing's install prompt, paste it into a Muse chat, approve the summary, and let Muse install and verify it.
Does Muse have a skill store?
Not that Meta documents today. Third-party skills install through the chat, with the install prompt — which is exactly what Skill Harbor listings provide.
Do I need an account or an API key?
Usually no. Any prerequisite a skill has is stated on its listing, up front.
Why doesn't Muse use my new skill?
Start a new conversation — skills load at conversation start.
